Job Description

Reporting to the Director of Mobilizing, the National Youth Coordinator is responsible for leading the implementation of the Green Party of Canada’s Youth Engagement Strategy. The National Youth Coordinator is part of a dynamic team working to elect Green Members of Parliament.

This role requires a born campaigner who can attract, engage and mobilize young Canadians to become Young Green members and Green Party voters.

The role also requires someone who is detail oriented and organized. It includes ensuring the necessary infrastructure is in place and maintained so that young people can be meaningfully engaged within the Green Party of Canada. The National Youth Coordinator is also responsible for actively supporting the Young Greens of Canada Council, Campus clubs and other Young Green leaders and volunteers across Canada including offering administrative and communications support.

Responsibilities:

  • Implement the Green Party of Canada’s Youth Engagement Strategy;

  • Support the Green Party of Canada leadership in ensuring that young people are actively engaged in decision-making throughout the Party including developing tools, training plans and mentorship structures;

  • Provide operational support to the Young Greens of Canada Council;

  • Support and develop Campus clubs across Canada;

  • Recruit and support Young Greens of Canada volunteers and members;

  • Organize a yearly Young Greens of Canada leadership retreat and other activities and tools to train, encourage and support Young Greens leaders;

  • Support collaboration between youth-led and student-led organizations and movements and the GPC and YGC;

  • Work with the Young Greens of Canada Council to develop and implement a campaign plan focusing on mobilizing Canadian young voters;

Qualifications:

  • Degree/diploma or equivalent in relevant subject (environmental studies, communications, event planning, nonprofit administration etc.);

  • Organized, detail oriented, and likes structure, excited to build on existing organizational structures, and processes;

  • Excellent attention to detail and proven track record of accuracy;

  • Outgoing people person excited about working with, supporting and mentoring young people;

  • Knowledge of governance best practices and has worked with a governance board previously;

  • Ability to take initiative and to work independently;

  • Sound working knowledge of environmental issues, especially as they affect students and young people;

  • Passion for and knowledge of Canadian politics;

 Skills:

  • Experience in project and people management, including a good understanding of how to delegate and work collaboratively;

  • Experience working with young people and engaging youth in decision-making;

  • Experience developing ‘how to guides’, tools and resources for a youth audience;

  • Experience developing and leading mentorship programs;

  • Experience in event planning and logistics;

  • Experience managing a budget and basic accounting knowledge;

  • Experience in database management;

  • Experience in communications (social media, newsletter, analytics);

  • Experience maintaining a website;

  • Experience with impact measurement;

  • Strong oral and written communication in French and English;

  • Experience in activism or campaign organizing is an asset;

  • Basic design skills (Photoshop, InDesign) an asset; and

  • Basic website development skills (Wordpress, Drupal) an asset.
