Advisory: Green Party leaders celebrate Montreal Protocol on 30th anniversary

(OTTAWA) - Advisory: Green Party leaders celebrate Montreal Protocol on 30th anniversary

Elizabeth May, Leader of the Green Party of Canada (MP, Saanich-Gulf Islands) and Daniel Green, Deputy Leader of the Green Party of Canada, will be speaking to the press about the Montreal Protocol, signed 30 years ago to protect the ozone layer from ongoing depletion. The Protocol has been an enormous success, given the ozone layer’s strong recovery.

This success ought to be seen as evidence that when faced with a global environmental crisis, the international community is more than capable of working together in the common interest. The Green Leaders will speak about COP23, and draw parallels between the Montreal Protocol and the efforts to adequately mitigate climate change at the global level.

Elizabeth May has a strong knowledge of the Montreal Protocol as she was part of the Environment Canada team in negotiations in September 1987.
