OTTAWA – Green Party Leader Elizabeth May today congratulated her federal NDP counterpart Jagmeet Singh on his win in yesterday’s Burnaby South by-election “I look forward to debating Mr. Singh in the House on a variety of issues in the lead-up to this year’s federal election,” she said.
But Mr. Singh’s win was the only good news for his party last night. The NDP was defeated in the Outremont riding they had held since 2007. The Green Party candidate, Deputy Leader Daniel Green, polled strongly in Outremont finishing in third place with 12.5 per cent of the vote..
“I am curious to learn how Mr. Singh intends to defend his support for the $40 billion LNG pipeline project in northern British Columbia in light of the climate crisis,” said Ms May. “Greens are gaining momentum across the country because voters are concerned about climate change and want to move away from our reliance on fossil fuels. In October, Canadians will choose the party with solutions to these critical issues. That party is the Green Party.”
