Congratulations to Toronto-Danforth Green Team

TORONTO - Congratulations go out to Adriana Mugnatto-Hamu and her wonderful team for a well-fought campaign in Toronto-Danforth.  Adriana was neck and neck with the Conservative candidate for much of the night, finishing with nearly 5% of the vote.

"I am very proud of Adriana and our team in Toronto-Danforth," said Green Leader Elizabeth May (MP for Saanich-Gulf Islands, BC).  "It was a rare election prompted by a sad occasion.  Not since Sir Wilfred Laurier in 1919 have we had a Leader of the Opposition die in office.  Scott Craig's convincing win is a fitting final tribute to the legacy of Jack Layton."

Craig won the riding with almost 60% of the votes.  Voter turnout for the by-election was 43.4%.

"Over 90% of those who voted rejected Harper's vision of Canada. We hope that he takes this to heart," said May. "We should also take note that we need to continue working to increase voter turnout in Canada."

"A sincere thank you to the nearly 5% of the good people of Toronto-Danforth for supporting Adriana. Greens will continue to be your advocates for cleaning up politics, ensuring a healthy environment with clean water, and standing up for the rights of families," said May.
