Jo-Ann Roberts appointed new Culture and Heritage Critic for the Green Party

“We need more Members of Parliament like Jo-Ann, who will fight to preserve our collective heritage.” – Elizabeth May

(OTTAWA) - Elizabeth May, Leader of the Green Party of Canada and Member of Parliament for Saanich – Gulf Islands, is pleased to announce the appointment of Victoria candidate, Jo-Ann Roberts, as the party’s new Culture and Heritage Critic.

“I have come to know and respect Jo-Ann Roberts from her tireless efforts to promote Canadian culture and defend our public broadcaster,” said May. “The CBC is Canada’s national voice – it connects us from coast to coast to coast. We need more Members of Parliament like Jo-Ann, who will fight to preserve our collective heritage.”

Roberts, a veteran journalist and former host of CBC’s All Points West, has received numerous awards in journalism. She developed a public broadcasting course for the University of Victoria and was also the B.C. Director for the Canadian Media Guild.

“Stephen Harper is replacing parts of our culture with his ‘warrior nation’ narrative,” concluded Roberts. “I think, quite honestly, he is running this country on fear. It's time to replace that fear with hope, because it is changing the very essence of who we are as Canadians. As the Culture and Heritage Critic, I am passionate about restoring our true Canadian identity that this Prime Minister has set out to destroy.”
