HALIFAX– Jo-Ann Roberts, veteran journalist and Deputy Leader of the Green Party of Canada, will be the party’s candidate in Halifax in the next federal election.
Roberts won by acclamation during the party’s Halifax Electoral District Association nomination meeting last night. She was nominated by Nova Scotia Green Party Leader Thomas Trappenberg, who was the candidate in the 2015 federal election.
“I am very excited to be running in Halifax,” said Roberts. “As Canadians reflect on the disturbing findings contained in the recent report from the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, they are realizing that we need more Green voices in Ottawa. As a Green MP, I will represent people before party. Voters feel betrayed by broken promises and I want to give people something to vote for, not against.”
Roberts ran as federal Green candidate in Victoria, B.C. in 2015. She finished second with 32 percent of the vote. She was born and raised in Atlantic Canada and, after having worked away for the last 14 years, moved home a year ago to be closer to family.

She will bring the same skills and commitment to the fight for honesty and integrity in parliament. She will be an excellent MP.”
Roberts is an award winning journalist who was host of Information Morning on CBC Radio in Moncton for 10 years before moving to Victoria, B.C., where she hosted the CBC Radio afternoon show All Points West for 10 years.
She is the first federal candidate to be nominated in the Halifax riding. The next federal election is set for October 21 next year.
