OTTAWA -- Green Party Leader Elizabeth May (MP, Saanich-Gulf Islands) today congratulated Steve Dyck and his team for winning the party nomination in the riding of Guelph, Ontario.

He’ll be an impressive candidate for the Green Party of Canada,” said Ms, May. “It was a tight race, with a total of five candidates running for the nomination: Steve Dyck, Ralph Martin, Hayley Kellet, Jax Thornton and Alex Chapman. Thanks to each one of them for the tremendous effort they put into this campaign, and for their dedication to the party.”
Originally from northern Alberta, businessman Steve Dyck has long been supportive of the Green Party’s approach to environmental, social and economic sustainability. Mr. Dyck ran for the Greens in the 2011 federal election. Mike Schreiner, Leader of the Green Party of Ontario, won a landslide victory for the Greens in Guelph last year, becoming the first Green MPP to be elected in Ontario.
“I’m a bridge builder, I’m about working across differences to draw people together,” said Mr. Dyck. “Like many urban centres across Canada, we’re facing some serious challenges here in Guelph, but I’m looking forward to getting out into the community, connecting with the voters and working to identify long-term solutions to many of the issues people are facing.”
“We’ve got so many great candidates running in this federal election,” added Ms. May. “Canadians are paying attention to the seriousness of what’s happening across the country and around the world. Voters want leadership they can count on and in October they will choose the party with solutions to those critical issues. That party is the Green Party.”
