OTTAWA - It is with deep regret that the Green Party of Canada acknowledges that it has not accurately reported the fundraising success of leadership contestant Glen Murray to the media and the public.
A number of donations that were likely intended for the Glen Murray campaign were recorded as general donations to the party. This caused there to be a significant under-reporting of the funds raised by Murray.
These errors have been discovered and are now under review. The party is taking immediate measures to correct the situation and reviewing all donations made to the party to ensure there are no additional oversights.
We apologize for the errors and deeply regret that this has created both misperceptions about the relative levels of support for the Murray campaign and limited the contestant’s ability to campaign at critical points in the leadership contest.
Restitution will be made to the Glen Murray campaign as quickly as possible. We are grateful for the patience and understanding from the campaign to correct this problem.
We advise all contestants’ campaigns to review their donor lists and ensure their records match those provided by the party.
We will issue an update when this review process is complete.
