Green Party supports new Leader Annamie Paul in Toronto Centre

OTTAWA – The Green Party of Canada and Greens across the country will be working to support their new Leader, Annamie Paul, in the upcoming Toronto Centre federal by-election on October 26. Ms. Paul, who won the nomination by acclamation was elected as the Party’s new Leader on October 3, 2020.

“We’re thrilled that Annamie Paul will be running in the Toronto Centre by-election and the party will be supporting her all the way,” said Green Party Interim Executive Director Anik Lajoie. “Ms. Paul ran a strong campaign in the last federal election and knows full well the challenges, including those of running a campaign during a pandemic. She has deep roots in this riding. Not only was she born in Toronto Centre, but her mother taught in schools there, and her grandmother was a frontline worker in hospitals there.

“Ms. Paul made history this week, becoming the first Black person and Jewish woman to be elected as leader of a major party. Now we aim to build on the phenomenal momentum she’s garnered. The whole party will be behind her and Greens across the country are ready to help Ms. Paul to get elected. Let’s make history again and send her to Parliament.”

A lawyer and human rights advocate, Ms. Paul is an international affairs professional and social entrepreneur from Toronto. She holds a Master of Public Affairs from Princeton University, a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Ottawa and speaks four languages. She is committed to the core Green Values that unite all Greens across Canada and around the world.
