(OTTAWA) - The Green Party of Canada condemns KPMG’s offshore sham that allowed a Victoria, B.C., family to pay almost no taxes for the past eight years.
“Tax havens and tax credits used by the extremely wealthy are unethical, inequitable, and detrimental to our economy. The Green Party will close all tax haven loopholes and stop the wealthy from cheating our country,” said Green Leader Elizabeth May, candidate in Saanich-Gulf Islands.
“This latest scandal underlines how negligent Canada has been. The Canadian Revenue Agency has been going after small guys and charities: it’s time to to crack down on millionaire scammers. KPMG and its clients must be put on trial and pay back what they stole from Canadians,” said May.
The fully costed Green Party platform was launched yesterday and calls for closing tax haven loopholes. This measure would bring an extra $3 billion dollars into Canada’s budget yearly [http://www.greenparty.ca/en/budget].
