(OTTAWA) - Elizabeth May, Leader of the Green Party of Canada and MP (Saanich-Gulf Islands), announced today that she has placed a number of motions on the order paper to serve as a starting point for Parliament to repair the damage done by the previous government.
“We must take stock of the harm done and resolve to act swiftly,” said May. “I believe it is Parliament’s responsibility - and should be amongst its top priorities - to review, draft and pass legislation to fix what Harper and his government broke. Over the course of a decade, our environmental protections, our national security framework, our criminal justice system, and so much more were severely damaged. So much was undone in such a short period – it will take the resolve and dedication of Parliamentarians from all sides of the House to repair the laws and governing practices of our country.
“What I have proposed are intended to be reminders of the damage done and suggestions for how best to proceed with much needed reforms. Canadians have elected a new, more progressive Parliament with a mandate for bold change. I look forward to working on these changes with all Members of Parliament.”
