(OTTAWA) - Every year, on the third Monday in January, the world pauses to commemorate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King.
“I was deeply influenced by Dr. Martin Luther King and I will never forget my overwhelming sadness when I heard the news of his assassination,” said Elizabeth May, Leader of the Green Party of Canada and MP (Saanich-Gulf Islands). “He was one of the world’s greatest leaders and a man of action. His message of nonviolence and his effective use of civil disobedience still resonate today.
“In 1963, he was the driving force behind the March on Washington, where he delivered his famous ‘I Have a Dream’ speech. He taught us that in order to build a better world, we must respond to hatred and intolerance with love. The world continues to stand in awe of his accomplishments and draw inspiration from his example,” concluded May.
