(OTTAWA) - Today, the Green Party of Canada joins in the celebration of Black History month by recognizing the vital contributions and achievements of Black Canadians.
“From Mathieu Da Costa to the publishings of Mary Ann Shadd, from the courageous spirit of Viola Desmond to the work of Reverend William A. White, we must pay thanks and tribute to the Black Canadians who have helped create, shape, and defend our country. By cherishing and protecting their heritage and legacy, we preserve the multiculturalism of our shared history.
“We must remember our obligation to build a country that works for all Canadians, a Canada where equality and opportunity are available to all,” stated May. “Take time this month to learn more about the role Black Canadians play in our history and accomplishments. Let us continue to work together to end discrimination and racism.”
