(OTTAWA) - Elizabeth May, Leader of the Green Party of Canada (MP, Saanich-Gulf Islands), released the following call to action regarding International Day of the Girl:
“Developed nations have a responsibility to do more for the world’s 1.1 billion girls. Today is part of a larger vision towards a world of equality: A Planet 50-50 by 2030. Factors such as unwanted pregnancy, forced early marriage, gender-based violence, and limited access to higher education and reproductive health services mean many girls will struggle unnecessarily to realize their potential. Canada and other nations must invest in girls’ health, safety, education and rights here at home and around the world to ensure the gender gap is removed and girls can thrive.”
