Greens announce candidate for Lac-Saint-Jean byelection

Montreal — The Green Party of Canada announces Yves Laporte as its candidate in the riding of Lac-Saint-Jean for the Oct. 23 byelection.

Yves is a pianist and resides in Chicoutimi. He completed a Bachelor of Music Composition at the University of Montreal’s Faculty of Music, along with environmental management studies at the Collège de Rosemont. He has been active in both the federal and provincial Green parties for almost 10 years, and has been a candidate several times. As a member of Greenpeace, he is involved in defending the environment in Lac-Saint-Jean and the Saguenay.

“I’m very proud to announce that I will be a candidate for the Green Party of Canada. There are a number of economic and environmental issues I wish to bring to the attention of Lac-Saint-Jean constituents,” Mr. Laporte said.

“Yves is an excellent candidate and a long-standing environmental campaigner. I know voters will recognize in Yves Laporte an ideal representative to defend Lac-Saint-Jean’s interests in Ottawa,” said Elizabeth May, Leader of the Green Party of Canada (MP, Saanich-Gulf Islands).

“I know that Yves will enrich debate during this by-election. I will be in the riding in mid-October to support his campaign,” said Daniel Green, Deputy Leader of the Green Party of Canada.

Mr. Laporte concluded: “My objective is to persuade Lac-Saint-Jean residents to vote Green. This is a unique opportunity to make a difference and send a message to the Trudeau government that in Lac-Saint-Jean, we believe in the green shift for our country."
