Dr. Lisa Steele is a forensic neuropathologist, the chair of the Medical Advisory Committee and Director of Blood Bank at Royal Inland Hospital, and the Transfusion Director for Interior Health. Lisa lives in Kamloops with her husband, 2019 Green Party candidate Iain Currie, and their cat. Lisa is an American by birth and a Canadian by choice. She grew up and did her medical degree in Upstate New York. She completed her pathology residency at Cedar Sinai Hospital in LA, her neuropathology fellowship at UCLA and a forensic pathology fellowship in Miami (where her earrings inspired the costumers for the pathologist character on CSI Miami). Lisa moved to Canada in 2004, first to Calgary, then Medicine Hat, then to Kamloops in 2012. She became a citizen in 2017. In 2015, Lisa leveraged her unique expertise in both forensic and neuro (brain) pathology to provide culturally sensitive autopsy services to Indigenous families who had lost infants and children. Her work was recognized by the BC Government and profiled in the Globe and Mail (https://www.theglobeandmail.com/life/health-and-fitness/health/what-motivates-someone-to-become-a-pediatricpathologist-health/article32925755/).

Lisa is distinctly not many people’s stereotype of a Canadian Green. She grew up in a Republican household and once travelled from California to New York to vote against Hillary Clinton in the New York senate election. She carried a gun to crime scenes in Florida. She never lets politeness get in the way of needed honesty.

Lisa is Batman. Not the hero we want, but the hero we need.
