OTTAWA – The Green Party of Canada extends warm wishes to Tamils in Canada and around the world celebrating the festival of Thai Pongal today.
“During the Tamil festival of Thai Pongal families and communities celebrate and give thanks for the bounty of the harvest,” said Green Party Leader Annamie Paul. “The festival pays homage to the farmers, the animals and all who help bring food to the table.
“With its core themes of peace, unity, love and compassion, values that all Greens share, the festival usually brings families and communities together to celebrate with songs, stories and a traditional meal. While this year’s festival is limited for many due to pandemic restrictions, there are still so many reasons to celebrate the joy of life’s renewal.
“On behalf of all of us at the Green Party of Canada, we wish Tamils everywhere a very Happy Pongal - Iniya Thai Pongal Nalvazhthukkal!”
