Hi! My name is Gabe (he/il) and I'm running to continue as the Ontario representative on the Young Greens of Canada Council (YGCC).

Youth engagement in the Green Party is turning a corner. The YGCC has been planning events with the interim Leader as well as reaching out to members. I’m glad to have contributed to this as the Engagement Chair of the YGCC, and hope to take this progress even further next year.

There are some structural issues limiting youth engagement in this party. Opportunities for young people have been limited to working with their EDAs or YGCC. Frankly, that is not a wide enough range of options and it certainly isn’t meeting young people where they are.

The YGCC needs to be more accessible, and there need to be a broader range of ways to get involved beyond YGCC. This is part of what we’ve been working on over this past year, and what we plan to continue doing ahead of the upcoming leadership election: we’re developing a streamlined application process for young people to become members of youth committees, as well as an “action team” that will connect staff and council to young volunteers.

Engaging young people is necessary in order for this party to be the best that it can be: Our commitment to climate action comes from the knowledge that we will have to pay for apathy in our lifetimes.

Thanks for your support, I hope to keep representing you on the YGCC.
