Elizabeth May to Donate Blood in Support of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

OTTAWA – Elizabeth May, Leader of the Green Party of Canada and MP for Saanich–Gulf Islands, issued the following statement in support of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month:

“Today, there are more than 10,000 children in Canada living with cancer and more than 1,500 new cases are diagnosed annually."

"In support of the GoldRibbon Campaign blood drive, I will donate blood this Tuesday to honour survivors of childhood cancer, to remember children who lost their lives, and to raise awareness towards pediatric cancer research."

"Not long ago, a childhood cancer diagnosis was almost certainly a death sentence but thanks to advances in screening, diagnosis, and treatment, survival rates have increased by almost 50% since the 1960s."

"Canada is a world leader in cancer research, and each day brings us closer to a future where all children diagnosed with cancer can look forward to long and cancer-free lives.  We must continue to support the important work of medical research and to support children and youth who are battling cancer.”
