Whitby

Johannes Kotilainen works as a set builder in the Toronto film industry. He sits on the environment committee of  the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE 873).

Kotilainen, 31, is a graduate of Capilano University in B.C. and Seneca College’s Green Business Management program. “I am honoured to be the Green Party candidate for Whitby and to have the opportunity to represent the community that my family and I call home,” said Kotilainen, “Whitby is a growing community that needs strong, responsible representation in Parliament. We’ve seen the impacts of climate change significantly increase over the past six years of Liberal government and we need action that only the Green Party is prepared to take to confront this immediate threat.”

Kotilainen intends to fight for the environment and create green jobs, particularly for the Durham region; “It’s not jobs or the environment, it’s jobs and the environment!” He wants to spark a sustainability revolution in Whitby and across the country bringing sustainability to electricity, transportation, agriculture, and more. He believes that this will jump-start the economy and provide massive opportunities for new skilled, high-paying jobs.
