Greens Thank Whitby – Oshawa Candidate Craig Cameron for Hard-Fought Campaign

(OTTAWA) - The Green Party of Canada congratulates Craig Cameron for running an excellent campaign to ensure that the residents Whitby-Oshawa were well informed of the issues that matter to them.

Mr. Cameron, a post-secondary educator, community volunteer, husband, and father, ran a positive campaign during the by-election.  He offered significant and constructive ideas to improve the community of Whitby-Oshawa during the campaign and well received during the debates.

“I am very proud of Craig's efforts to ensure that the issue of the climate crisis was not forgotten,” said Elizabeth May, Leader of the Green Party of Canada and Member of Parliament for Saanich-Gulf Islands. “The people of Whitby – Oshawa are certainly welcoming of Green values and I expect they will be hearing more from Craig in the near future.”

As with other by-elections, voter turnout was below 40%.  In Whitby – Oshawa, 32% of eligible voters went to the polls, while in the riding of Yellowhead, where another by-election was held, only 15% of eligible voters bothered to show up to the polls.

“Craig Cameron ran an outstanding campaign and was the only candidate brave enough to discuss parliamentary reform and the climate crisis,” said Bruce Hyer, Deputy Leader of the Green Party of Canada and Member of Parliament for Thunder Bay – Superior North. “I commend his efforts and sincerely hope that Craig is our candidate in the upcoming federal election.”
