Statement on reported terrorist attack in Nice, France

(OTTAWA) July 14, 2016 – Elizabeth May, Leader of the Green Party of Canada (MP, Saanich-Gulf Islands), issued the following statement on the reported terrorist attack in Nice, France, on Bastille Day:

“France has been struck on the day of her national holiday, a day meant to celebrate liberty and unity,” Ms. May said. “Right now, our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of the 84 people who were horribly murdered in this senseless attack. We stand in solidarity with France in opposing the evils of terrorism. All Canadians extend our deepest sympathy to our brothers and sisters in France.”

Daniel Green, Deputy Leader of the Green Party of Canada, said:

"France pays with blood in this terrible madness. I offer my condolences to our French friends who have lost loved ones in these senseless killings. This attack during the Bastille Day, which embodies the freedom of the French people, shows how Daesh is desperate to advance its backward ideology. But far from giving in, we are today all with France, and determined more than ever to find a way to stop the carnage."
