(OTTAWA) – The Green Party of Canada released the following statement on International Day of Peace:
“The Green Party of Canada asks that Canadians pause to remember all those who participate on our behalf in the pursuit of peace, human rights and security,” said Joe Foster, Green Party Human Rights Critic.
“It may seem the world is becoming more dangerous. Civilians, including children, diplomats and organizations like the Red Cross and its affiliates are under attack in many countries by those who believe fear and intimidation can conquer.
“Canadians have been involved for decades in peacekeeping and peacebuilding, and we must continue to be the leaders for human rights at home and around the world,” Mr. Foster said.
Elizabeth May, Leader of the Green Party of Canada (MP, Saanich-Gulf Islands), said: “As Canadians, we seek reconciliation rather than revenge, and security for all citizens of the world. Canada created peacekeeping and we can lead the world once again in this invaluable service. Violence only breeds more violence.
“Today, let us support and encourage our international Peacekeepers, the RCMP, provincial and municipal police forces, as well as Canadian diplomats and civilians who work in support of peace and security every day,” Ms. May concluded.
