OTTAWA — Leader of the Green Party of Canada, Elizabeth May (MP, Saanich-Gulf Islands) issued the following statement to wish Canadians a joyful Canada Day:
“Across Canada today, family and friends will gather to celebrate this magnificent country in which we live,” said Ms. May. “We are keenly aware that for Indigenous Canadians, the experience of being Canadian has been dispiriting. We need to move forward for true justice and reconciliation.
“Like all Canadians, I am grateful to live in a country where communities care for each other and neighbours are friends. As we face an uncertain future due to the climate crisis, it is our shared values of compassion, respect for diversity and active citizenship that will keep us safe.
“Despite many challenges, Canadians know that among the world’s peoples, we are deeply blessed. On behalf of the Green Party of Canada, I wish everyone a safe and happy Canada Day!
