Green Party Statement on Thanksgiving

OTTAWA  — Green Party Leader Elizabeth May extends warm wishes to all Canadians celebrating the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

“Thanksgiving is a special time for friends, families and communities to gather together, share a meal, and give thanks,” said Ms. May. “The fall harvest reminds us of the earth’s bounty and of the hard working farmers and field workers who deliver this abundance to our tables. There is much to be thankful for in Canada, but there are still too many who have little to celebrate.

“This is an opportunity to remember those less fortunate, and, if it is within our means, reach out to a neighbour who might be isolated, donate to a local food bank or volunteer at a shelter. Holiday times can be especially lonely for seniors and the homeless. Let’s also take a moment to remember with gratitude the hospitality, sacrifice, and resilience of the original people of this land.”

“On behalf of the Green Party of Canada I wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving.”
