Happy Thanksgiving!

TORONTO  – Leader of the Green Party of Canada, Annamie Paul extends good wishes to all Canadians celebrating the Thanksgiving holiday.

“This year’s Thanksgiving will be unlike any other,” said Ms. Paul. “COVID-19 cases have spiked again, restrictions have been reimposed in many parts of the country, and were never fully lifted in others. I won't be able to spend this day with my 84-year old mom in order to keep her safe.

“We hope that families and friends who are not able to gather in person, will still be able to find meaningful ways to connect with loved ones. Holidays are a lonely time for some, especially this year.  If you are able to reach out, in a COVID-safe way, to a neighbour or a friend in need, that generosity of spirit will be welcomed.

"The tradition of giving thanks in Canada began with the Peoples who are Indigenous to these territories, who have long celebrated the Earth’s bounty. Today, I am especially thankful to First Nations, Inuit and Métis for their continued stewardship and protection of the lands we all call home.

“As a guest, I wish to express my thanks by reaffirming my commitment to be an ally in the ongoing calls to action and for Indigenous self-determination. From all of us here at the Green Party, we wish you a Happy Thanksgiving!”
