Green Party Statement for Vaisakhi

OTTAWA  – The Green Party of Canada extends warm wishes to Sikhs in Canada and around the world for a joyful celebration of Vaisakhi. This holy festival was created by Guru Gobind Singh in 1699 to honour the initiation of the Khalsa, the collective name given to Sikhs who've been baptised.

Vaisakhi is a time to gather for prayers at gurdwaras and to participate in festive Nagar Kirtan processions, singing hymns and enjoying traditional delicacies.

“Although festive gatherings may not be possible this year due to pandemic restrictions, we hope that families, friends and communities will find creative ways to safely celebrate this holiest day of the year for the Sikh community,” said Green Party leader Annamie Paul.

“From all of us here at the Green Party we wish you a Happy Vaisakhi, Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh.”
