The Green Party of Canada Statement on Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day

OTTAWA – The Green Party of Canada wishes Quebecers and all francophone Canadians a joyful fête nationale du Québec and Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day.

“Today is a day to celebrate the language, history and culture of Quebec, and of French Canadians,” said Green Party Leader Annamie Paul. “In Quebec and across the country there will be joyful celebrations and gatherings. The pandemic is not over yet, but relaxed restrictions in many communities will allow for outdoor activities which, after a challenging year of pandemic lockdowns, will be welcomed.

“The unique cultural heritage of Quebec contributes immensely to Canadian society and is intricately woven into the tapestry of diversity for which Canada is renowned. As the mother of two children of Canada’s francophonie, I am committed to ensuring that the French language not only survives, but also thrives across Canada. I encourage Canadians to experience the abundant music, dance, film, literature and poetry created by Quebecers and francophone artists, not just today but everyday. There is so much to learn, and to celebrate.

“Happy Saint Jean-Baptiste Day, bonne fête nationale du Québec!”
