Green Party Statement on the occasion of Yom Kippur

OTTAWA - The Green Party of Canada extends good wishes to Jews in Canada and around the world celebrating the holy occasion of Yom Kippur, which begins tonight at sundown. This holiest day, also known as the Day of Atonement, is traditionally observed with a period of fasting and deep prayer.

“Yom Kippur is a very special time for Jews,” said Green Party Leader Annamie Paul. “It is a time for deep reflection, and is a time to commit to good deeds for the upcoming year. I hope that families and communities can come together for this important spiritual celebration. For my part, I am committing to working to ensure that there is a greater chance for a life of dignity for every person in Canada.

“On behalf of my family and everyone at the Green Party I extend warm wishes to everyone for a peaceful Yom Kippur.”
