OTTAWA – Today, on the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, people in Canada and around the world pause to remember the six million Jews who died in the Holocaust and to reaffirm their commitment to end the scourge of antisemitism and hatred in all its forms.
“As we remember the horrors of the past, we know that the deep-rooted intolerance and hatred that gave rise to them have not gone away,” said interim Green Party Leader Amita Kuttner.
“The Holocaust is not some distant history, but remains fresh in the minds and hearts of all those connected to the horrors. Every person affected and still affected through intergenerational trauma – myself included – feels a grief that remains relevant decades later.
“On this day of remembrance, let us pledge to call out hate, to speak out against groups and individuals who espouse doctrines of racial and religious supremacy, and to cultivate understanding and empathy for the human family.”
