(OTTAWA) - Journalists and political pundits agreed, once again, that Elizabeth May, Leader of the Green Party and candidate (Saanich—Gulf Islands), was a strong performer in the leaders’ debate.
May explained the Green Party’s position on key issues discussed in the French-language 2015 Leaders' Debate.
May stressed the importance of creating a Council of Canadian Governments to bring together the provinces and territories, municipal governments, and Indigenous leadership to ensure constructive collaboration to find real solutions for the problems that concern all Canadians.
“We need to work together to develop national goals and national strategies,” said May.
The economy was a major topic of the debate. May explained that the Green Party’s National Sustainable Jobs Plan would make critical investments in trades, apprenticeships, and education, and ensure that all Canadians have the skills and training for the future.
“We need to kick-start our economy to get out of the recession. Job creation in fighting climate change, modernizing our crumbling infrastructure and investing in those sectors that benefit from the low dollar can achieve this,” stated May.
May explained that climate change is a huge issue facing Canada that Stephen Harper has failed to address. May said, “Green MPs will ensure that Canada can lead in these critical climate negotiations, including the United Nations 21st Conference of the Parties (COP21) in Paris.”
