Foreign Affairs Briefing Book Backs Up What Elizabeth May Has Been Seeing Internationally

(OTTAWA) - Leaked Foreign Affairs briefing documents confirm Green Party Leader Elizabeth May’s assessment of Canada’s international reputation and effectiveness. The documents use the term “eroded” to describe Canada’s international reputation.

According to the Canadian Press, “The memo recommends that the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development take a more active role in promoting climate change engagement by targeting programs at climate finance, clean technology, and climate-smart agriculture."

“As the only opposition leader with hands-on UN environmental treaty negotiation experience, including participating in most of the major climate sessions since 1989, I've been seeing the downgrading of Canada's reputation for years,” said May.

“Canada has to go the Paris climate negotiations ready to make a real commitment to reduce our own climate pollution and help other countries. It will be good for the climate and the economy,” said Ms. May. "And perhaps it will start to redeem us in the eyes of the world."
