Green Party Statement on Saint-Jean Baptiste Day

(Montréal) -   Elizabeth May, Leader of the Green Party of Canada and MP (Saanich – Gulf Islands), issued the following statement on Saint-Jean Baptiste Day:

“Today is Québec’s National Holiday and an opportunity to celebrate the culture, language, and history of this great province. I also want to recognize the many contributions that Francophone artists, leaders, and innovators have made to Canadian and Québec culture.

“In communities across this country, Francophone Canadians reflect on their unique heritage. I am proud that official bilingualism and the defense of French culture and language is a part of the Canadian identity. It is important we continue to honour these fundamental pieces of our heritage for future generations to enjoy.”

Daniel Green, Deputy Leader of the Green Party of Canada and candidate (Ville-Marie–Le Sud-Ouest–Île-des-Sœurs), continued:

“On behalf of Green Party members in Québec, I would like to recognize the many contributions that Québec environmentalists, artists, and organizations have made to defend our environment and heritage for future generations to enjoy. I wish all Québeckers a happy National Holiday!”
