Green Party Statement on Passover

OTTAWA – At sundown this evening Jews in Canada and around the world begin the eight-day celebration of Passover, the festival of freedom. This special time commemorates the Israelites’ exodus from Egypt. Traditionally, families and communities gather for the Passover (Pesach) seder, a special evening meal during which stories, songs and rituals are shared from the Passover Haggadah.

“Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year will be a very different type of Passover experience  for many,” said Green Party Interim Leader Jo-Ann Roberts. “I hope people will manage to find innovative ways in which to gather and commemorate this special holiday despite the challenges. May we all reflect on the message of freedom ingrained in the Passover story, as we endeavour to keep our loved ones and our communities safe and healthy.”

“From all of us at the Green Party of Canada we wish you “Chag Pesach sameach!” / “Happy Passover!”
